Fiber-optic (FO) transmission traditionally is present in long
haul backbone and metropolitan area networks.
However, since increasingly more fiber becomes available in
campus-based and local loop infrastructures, fiber optic
transmission becomes also important as a method for the direct
connection of traditional end-user applications.
The equipment in this section offers a flexible way for the
connection of a
variety of applications by different types of fiber media.
The units support applications based on serial connections,
G.703/T3 connections or Ethernet at speeds ranging from 64 kbps
up to 45 Mbps.
